Default Front axle poping

My front axle has a popping sound whenever i'm in 4x4 (all ratios). It doesn't do it any other time. I will be doing some work to her this weekend and wanted to know what I should check.

Thanks,
Dan

u joints 1st slip colar and fork arm 2nd (this is what actully switches the truck to 4x4) the fork is on the shaft of the vacume motor and slides the collor over the spline of the axal and the pinon to lock it all together if the shaft on the vacume motor is bent it will not go in 4x4 or get stuck in 4x4 or pop in and out,

1st off tho if you ever pull your outer half shaft on the passanger side be sure you put it in 4x4 first or the collor will fall down and youll bend the shaft of the vac. motor(dont ask me how i know)

It turns out it is something in my transfer case.... guess I will be tearing into it in the spring. Have been told by a backyard mechanic friend of mine that it is eithor a warn out shift fork of a worn out tailshaft bearing.
