Default Is it a waste of $$$ and time?

I've got the 0216 & 1693. My ? is can I replace my lift pump, just to see if thats the problem? I know everyone says its the injector pump and the lift pump, but I'm broke and I've got to rob Peter to pay Paul if I can say. It's gona take me a few to get the $2,000 for the pump. Can I get the Fass and install it now, or will it jack it up before I get the injector pump, I don't want to waste $270 fer nutn.
You guys are great and I really appreciate all the info, and Deisel Dan with the Youtube videos in AWSOMEEEEEEE, I know I can install that injector pump now, he's the man, and I don't think it's as huge of a deal as i thought. Thanks Diesel Dan.

if you already have the code for the pump then it is going south it wont do you any good but my suggestion would be to get the lift pump if money is an option air dog is a little cheaper in price also u can get a vp44 for about 900 note that is a stocker put in a price quote on the site

it will give you an idea on how much these items are going to cost

Yeah, you can get a remanufactured pump for around $1000.

Have you checked your fuel pressure?

A good lift pump is $300-500. Do NOT waste your money on an OEM style lift pump.

Also, dont forget to install a fuel pressure guage!

You're not really wasting your money as you will need something other than the stock lift pump when you install your new injection pump anyway. The question is how much longer before your VP44 fails? Not to mention the fact that if your lift pump is not currently working, replacing the VP44 would be like throwing money down the drain...
Good luck in your choice.
