Talking My first upgrade to my cummins

Today i sent my girlfriend with me beloved truck to get my piller pod put in. I had to work so i couldnt be there. upstate diesel performance was the guys i sent my truck to. they did a great job, a clean job, and made my girlfriend feel very comfortable well she waited. Not good news when i got to see what the fuel pressure gauge had to say when they where done so now i have to take it back and get an AirDog 150 put in. I will be telling everyone i know about the job they did and i would hope anyone living NY and wanting to get work done on your truck would look them up there website is upstatedieselperformance.com

Stock truck should see around 20-23 psi. Its probably about right as the Glow Shift gauges are known to be inaccurate.

Really, in a stock '99 truck? Mine will only hit 19 psi in stock form.
Add the boost elbow and more fuel, and it'll go higher of course.

I've always read that the '99 automatics only hit 19 or so, while the newer 01 and 02 autos will get a little higher, like the 20-23 range.

Have I been misinformed? I don't have any boost leaks......

no they are talking boost. Fuel pressure should be no more than 20psi. But I would not drive the truck till you get the fuel pressure up or your going to be spending a lot of money not on mods.

im waiting for upstate to get back to me when they can get me a airdog 150 and when they can put it in this sucks but its better to spend the money on that instead of a new pump. had saved up some money for down payment on new sled but guess ill have to use it for my truck instead

Having 20 psi fuel pressure on a VP44 is really high I would think. 17 or so is about normal high from what I have seen. 15 is good, 13 is acceptable and 11 is boarderline trouble.

Now boost on a '99 depending on fueling mods, the turbo and elevation above sea level is likely topped out around 21 psi. 24 at best.

Get a different turbo set up and maybe play with the gate a bit and you could drive that to 30 - 32 without issue. Add injectors and a programmer and along with your new lift pump could get as much as 40 under the right conditions.
