Default MPG question

I was curious as to what type of MPG I should be getting. I drive 65 miles/day with about 5 of that city, the rest on open road. Cruise set at 60-65. Auto with 3.55's 4x4 and only get about 15 mpg. Is this normal? How can I get better? My tire size is 285 75 16. The truck only has around 235,000 miles on it. Thanks.

Should be a good margin higher than that. What is the condition of your TC? What about your pumps? Better fuel delivery results in better economy in these trucks so without a gauge you'll be hard pressed to see that.

If you are running cruise and 100 k/hr like you are I'd think that you should be around what equals 21+ US MPG.

I get better than that with all my mods done. You should be able to pull 18 easy.

Completely stock. Haven't checked my pump, gonna get a gauge as soon as money allows and overall, seems in real good shape. Could the pump be an issue? Would a better air filter help? What about a better exhaust? Thanks.

It could be. Poor fuel economy can result from a poorly functioning VP44 injection. It is more likely in your case that the TC is bummed though as this tranny is commonly referred to as the slush box. Get a BD valve body and TC or some other sort of combo and watch the mileage climb.

235,000 mi. Maybe a valve adjustment might be in order too along with the things mentioned previously
