98.5 is when they went to the 24 valve engine and the VP44 injector pump.

because its a half year
like not many have the 98 12 valve
was only built half a year
as far as i know, no differences in 98.5 and a 99.
if so it is just small interior differences

I have a 98.5 and my boy has the 2000 mostly the same, he has differant fuel filter, differant and better removable rotors, a little differant dash but black and all cracked mine is grey and perfect. seems most other things are the same. Great trucks, have some week links but when they are addressed supper. Ed trans, ps support, steering linkage, fuel pump

I see that you mentioned the ps support and linkage is that possibly why my steering feels loose and it seems like it has just a little to mush play bec. i dont have the support my ball joints look and feel fine.

You have the death wobble. All 2nd Gen Dodge trucks get that. Buy and install a steering brace like the DSS and you'll be much better off.
