Have an early 2002 Dodge Cummins that the idle is a bit high compared to others I have had. Its idling between 800 and 850 which really causes it to fight the brakes when stopped. Equiped with Edge Juice module, banks 4 inch from turbo out, banks high rise manifold. It was idling this way before modification. Also has 44000 miles. Appreciate any info TB PS automatic

 

Hi TJ and welcome to the site. I moved your thread here so it would get seen by the right people to help you out.

In the 24V trucks you idle speed is controlled by the ECM and VP44 Injector pump. The first thing I would suggest is to check your truck for any codes and post your findings here. After that there are a few sensors I would check and clean.

Give me a few minutes to find threads on these things and I will link you up with instructions on how to do these things.

To check for codes: Cycle the key on and off 3 times, not starting the truck and any codes present should come up in the odemeter window. Have pencil and paper ready to write when you do this.

Those numbers sound fine to me! Fill in your sig so we know what exactly ya got. My 02 with a 5spd idled about the same.

 

that sounds just about perfect for a 24 valver, mine idels from 85 to 1100 rpm but thats because of the new pump, for a stocker or reman that sounds fine to me.

I just noticed in your signature a 25lb fuel pump. This doesn't mean that your carryin 25psi from your lift pump to the VP44 does it.

 

mine idles like that. 1000 then drops to 850 after a few sec. my fuel presser to the pump is 25 at idle to.

 

25psi is way to high. to high of pressure will kill a VP44 just as quick as not enough. Ideally you want pressure between 16 and 18psi, never over 20psi and most folks would say never over 16psi. Doubt that this is creating a difference in your RPM's but will lead to more expensive problems.

 

My "juice" module is showing 23-26 lbs at the vp inlet flange....It was getting dangerously low when I started the mods..(4 to 10 on accelleration...Thats why I read these posts) this is the first I"ve heard that....so how do I regulate the pressure?

Ok, I"ll rephrase that question, who makes a decent fuel regulator, I'm
using a Carter inline fuel pump mounted on the frame about even with the front on the drivers door.

I guess with a 5 spd it wouldn't make that much difference...I have to sit at lights with my right leg jammed in the brake. The truck will go 15 mph without touching the throttle......if thats normal maybe I should invest in a torque converter with a higher stall speed, really annoying to drive with the traffic around here..TjB

 

Just about anyplace that sells Walbro kit's will have a pressure regulator just for your purpose. There are several of them out there, below is a link to just one of the places that I know off the top of my head. You could also contact ndurbin/Cowboy Diesel or Vulcan, they are both listed in the vendor section of the site. They probably have a version of these regulators available also.
