Default 47RE Tranny Temp

I was towing my rockcrawler this weekend and was in a bunch of stop and go traffic. I just put a new tranny in my truck 2 weeks ago.

I got the tranny temp up to about 215 in the pan at its highest.
This was only for a short period of time tho.

I was running about 190 most of the time. Did I ruin anything in my tranny?

Other than a deeper oil pan what mods can I do to improve this? bigger trans cooler? Add a Secondly cooler somewhere else?

i don't think you hurt any thing check your fluid to see if it is burnt. i would put a deeper pan and another cooler on it.

You cannot use fluid color or smell to use as an inspection tool for the fluid.

Temperature, mileage and use dictate oil changes.

215 is not that hot if it was a short time and you did NOT shut the truck down. However, I would change it anyway.

The 190* temps you are "normally" seeing are also high. Lemme guess, Transgo shift kit? You should not see anywhere near those temps unless sitting on the converter for several minutes at a time.

A local guy did a shift kit and rebuilt my tranny. I was in bad stop and go traffic on hill... Any suggestions for cheap fixes? Obviously, gonna need a tranny cooler of some kind mainly just to add more fluid, but I would really like to stay away from a full new pan. An y suggestions. Are the tranny lines high pressure or can I just T one of these in somewhere?

Get a tranny cooler with a fan, and big surface area to cool .BD-Power Auxiliary Transmission Cooler. Deep pan will help. Cooling depends on how much surface area is exposed to air.

converter lock up switch so you can lock it up in 2nd gear while going slow, if your running the atf+4 then you have no issues 215 isn't even touching the fluid yet. now 220 and above starts to have issues. But your fine. I took this Perma-Cool 13311 - Perma-Cool Maxi-Cool Dual Circuit Fluid Coolers – SummitRacing.com mounted it on my crossmember under the radiator and run the trans fluid through it first then through the stock one, I also upgraded the stock trans cooler. I bypassed the heat exchanger too. I read my temps from the hot line out of the converter though going to get a temp gauge in the pan too.
