I am planning on selling my 6.5 and buying a cummins towards the end of july. I think about 8 grand will be my max. I 'd really lyk to get a 98 of 99 24 valve 5 speed or a 12 valve with low miles. I think the manuals hold up better than the auto's??? maybe more power??? I dont know a ton about these trucks so I was wondering If there's anything that I need to be watching for I dont wanna buy something that seems lyk a great deal and end up with junk.

 

Keep an eye out for the "53" block. Its got a thin spot that cracks.

 

12Valve engine,I like my 24V but it sure cost me some money to make it reliable.

better off with a 94-98 12V than a 98.5-2002 24V

Make sure the front end is in good shape. Cost a lot to fix on these trucks. And you're better off with a manual tranny unless you want to spend some serious $$ fixing up an auto.

 

get the manual or work your budget with an extra ~3500 for a goerend.
