Default My Intake gasket

I removed my intake manifold to clean it up today and noticed the gasket underneath was broken previously. Does this pose a problem if I drive with it broken? I evenly torqued the bolts to make sure it sits flush but wanna make sure is safe.
What exactly is the square block underneath the manifold with grates inside it for?

I would get a new gasket.

The square thing that you mention is the grid heater. That "grate" heats up during the winter to make cold starts easier.

Ya I would get a new gasket also. & yes its the heater grid. Its kinda like Cummins version of glow plugs. Heats the air in the heat cycles instead of heating the fuel like glow plugs do.

I'm going to get one today and re tourque it, did you put any sealer on the gasket? looks like a dry gasket but is there any advantages to putting anything on it? I dont wanna mess up the grid heater though.
