Default Power Steering Going?

For some reason my truck has all but lost power steering , i parked on a street today and 2 ******** parked in front and in back of me with about 12" between us ... it took me 5 mins to get out , ive noticed a slight loss of power steering the last few months but now its so bad i have to do something about it , i wonder if it could be just low on power steering fluid?

my friends 97 was doing this, he thought it was the pump and replaced it well that didnt fix it...it ended up being the lines they were leaking so you might want to check those to make sure they aint leaking at the connections, if i remember right i think the lines were only like $25

Could be your steering gear box maybe? I thought my pump was going out and it was the steering gear box.

If you haven't changed the fluid for a while it may just be as simple a the old fluid is worn out and needs replaced. This takes a few minutes to try and is the simplest and cheapest option to start with.

It has a dipstick.

With my '99 the larger tires took their toll on the fluid...like Bubba said it might just need a flush.

Unhook the hoses and loosen the bolts so it can be turned and drain it or you can use the lazy mans method and get ya one a these things in the link and just suck it out and replace it. It's not a thorough method but it does the trick. A turkey Baster also works for this.
