hx or hy
i have a 2001 ram 3500 with auto. i thought the hy's all had a built in boost elbow, mine has a seperate elbow. has it been changed to a hx or is it reall an hy. how can i tell? thanks
Boost elbow is threaded in to the compressor housing. Has something to do with the ability of adjusting opening pressure??
Just a little bit of info for ya:
Autos have the HY for faster spool up. They also have less air output.
Manuals have the HX for the increased air flow, which is why some swap out the HY to an HX for cooler EGT's.
One draw back though, the HX has slower spool up.

thats what im saying, the elbow is clamped on both ends. i belive it to be a hy. the exhaust side has the built in turn down and i think hx's are a seperate part. why cant they just put a dang number on the side of the thing
i had a hy and it is a piece. the hy doesnt have a rubber boost line, it is metal and is threaded into the compressor housing and into the wastegate actuator.

if you have and 01 or 02 auto, you have an hy35

i agree it should be an hy. im the third owner of this truck and not sure what has been done before. but my compressor housing dumps out at 90 degrees from inlet and there is a clamped on elbow that turns it 90 degrees to the intercooler
