CHECK THIS OUT...Use A 727 Torqueflight Tranny Pan For 47RE...REALLY???
I recently have been doing alot of research on these trucks. I bought mine about a month ago and want to learn as much as possible. I am going to be puting a deeper trannsmission pan w/ plug on it. While researching I've found that a pan off of an old 727 torqueflight tranny will fit the 47RE tranny as well, well it should from what I've read, haven't tried yet. Anyways...You can buy a deep replacement pan for a 727 torqueflight for about $20 plus shipping. That was the cheapest I found. Now I don't know how much more fluid it holds, but it's 3" deep so I do believe it holds more and it has a plug, oh and it comes chrome. I'm thinking instead of spending $200-$300 on an upgraded pan for my 47RE, why wouldn't I just spend $20 for this one and still have a better pan than my stock one? Anyone have any input on this???

The 48re came into play in the 3rd gens. the deep pan for a 727 only adds 1/2 qt well atleast the one I got did. B&M 10280 - B&M Automatic Transmission Deep Pans - summitracing.com says 4qts for all other aps but this pan was just put on a buddies 00 and they said only 1/2qt more but it's aluminum and has a drain plug

The deep pan I was looking at for the 727 was 3" deep. The one you've got says 3 3/8" deep. I don't think the stock one on my 47re is quite 3" deep. I would think the 3" deep pan would add atleast 1/2 quart or so to the 47re. Yours should add more than 1/2 quart. How did the new one look compared to the old one, depth wise? I'm just thinking if 3 3/8" deep only adds half quart, then maybe the $20 3" deep pan I was looking at isn't deeper than the one I have. But then what do they mean 4 quarts to all other applicable transmissions? Which transmissions do they mean?
