Question Source For Carter 4090046 LP

I think I need a new lift pump, and in any event should carry a spare. Various forum topics indicate a Cummins campaign 4090046 Carter pump should be available for about $60. That sounds good to me. The original pump lasted 240,000 miles and this pump is supposed to be an improvement. The closest Cummins dealer doesn't have one but can get it for about $160. Can anyone tell me where I can order one at closer to the $60 price? Thanks - Jim

Are you monitoring the pressure with a gauge? If so, that's the highest mileage one I have heard of!

But in any case, my local guys don't seem to have them at that price any longer. I think most guys will recommend going to one of the lifetime pump solutions. If your second pump lasted as long as the first you would be set!

I went through 5 stockers in under 60K miles.

No one around here sells them for that cheap any more either...I bit the bullit and put a good pump on my truck and I monitor my FP... Never gets below 13psi with the FASS150..

Seeing how you have a one owner truck and it looks ike you plan on keeping it forever I would suggest a good fuel system like the air dog or the FASS. Keep the VP fed so it will stay cool and not have to worry to much with a big $$$$ repair like replacing the VP...

i agree, i went through 3 carter pumps in a month on my stock 98 24 valve, bite the bullet, get the FASS system, or at least their lift pump, ive been running one now for 85k miles in my built 99 and it never ever drops below 12 psi, even with me pushin 150 hp injectors and the edge juice

FASS or Airdog is the best way to go. Both are great kits and have a lifetime warranty. You can get either with Filters or just the Pump.

Well the only reason I am putting this on is because I really don't want to invest to much money in it since I am planning on selling it .I went to the cummins place and the quoted me $150 the also told me that this part number was going to be obsolete and they only had two here in Dallas Ft. Worth Tx .
