Default Oil in turbo at intake tube

I have a 1999 Ram 2500 5.9 and it doesn’t get driven often.... like once every 6 months. I’m starting to drive it daily again and I was changing the intake out and noticed oil in the turbo... I also get some blue smoke in the morning until I start driving which this would explain... I haven’t seen oil on this side of the turbo so I’m not sure what it would be... see pictures... my oil level is a little over full to which I’m not sure of... any input would be appreciated. Thank you!

Well that's not good. Ya might wanna rebuild or replace your turbo. That's a tell tale sigh that your turbo is on its way out. Sometimes turbos can fail catastrophically without much warning, or they can give warning signs. Its best to heed the warning.

I agree... don’t want to make matters worse... ordered a rebuild kit and just going to do it now. Didn’t know if it was a seal or if I needed a whole new turbo

Good man! You'll certainly find out when you take it apart. Just don't cut any corners. "If in doubt, throw it out"...and get something with a warranty.......if budget permits of course.

Oh yeah, you indicated that your oil level has increased. That's usually a sign that an injector(s) is failing and dumping fuel in the cylinder(s) and mixing with the oil in the crankcase. Also cause for concern. We call that "making oil"........ Definitely address that issue, as that can cost you a total rebuild.

I am going to change the oil once my turbo is done, then drive it a little bit and check the oil level. Could be I did that but I changed the oil like 2 years ago, so I don’t want to jump to conclusions yet, but if I find it’s still making oil, I will immediately address the issue, which sucks because those are new injectors but I’ve experienced bad ones before right out of the box.

One more thing. Rising oil level could also be from a failed or failing headgasket in an area that is allowing coolant to leak down into the crankcase, check that your oil isn't milky, or settling at the bottom of the oil pan. water/coolant will settle a the bottom, raising the oil level effectively. I'll stop now before you go out and light your truck on fire......

Haha it’s all good, I definitely appreciate the input. I know what these things are about and I know how it goes, but I just did the head gasket and did a block test and it passed that way, but doesnt eliminate a head gasket, there’s just no exhaust gas in the cooling system. I don’t think the head gasket is the problem, but then again, I guess I’ll find out. Thanks again!

your turbo might be perfectly fine if your oil is diluted with diesel fuel... thin oil will run right past the sealing rings.
