Default Fuel Pressure before AND after fuel filter.

I have installed my fuel pressure gauge after the fuel filter (and not under the filter as recommended by the gauge mfg...I have an in tank lift pump, and mounted it just before the line goes into the VP44 with a new banjo bolt, a snubber valve and pressure sensor for the gauge...I only have 7-8 psi at idle and I read posts where a couple of other owners were getting the exact same reading as me from the same mounting location...wondering if I would get more pressure if I mount under the fuel filter or would it be the same...can't afford to upgrade to Fass etc...TX.

I mounted there first and had bad luck nothing worked like I wanted . so I moved it under the filter it worked much better... just saying...!!!

I also installed a check valve to control surging..

I think you will have the same pressure regardless.

That's what I was thinking gh0stman...pressure in a line is just that, no matter where you are in that line it seems to me...I want to leave it by the VP44 because it is so much easier to install there...I did however order a relocation kit to mount the sensor only to the firewall to reduce vibration...also have ordered a new Carter in tank pump simply because it's all I can afford since I'm retired and don't work anymore...TX. have a good one.

Good luck with the new pump. Just keep an eye on your pressures. If it is below 10 psi you are definitely going to have issues. But since you are on a fixed budget may the diesel gods smile in your favor.

By the way gh0stman...with the new Carter lift pump I have 14 at idle...mostly 10 under load...and sometimes as low as 6 in passing gear at WOT...Cummins states that will work...hope they are right...Tx. again gh0stman for all the helpful info you supplied...I appreciate it.

You want the pressure sensor between the filter and vp44 so you know you are getting fuel to the injection pump and so you know when it's time to change the filter due to pressure changes. Putting the sensor before the filter will only tell you if the LP is working or not.

Tx. Bryce...I moved the sensor to the test port on the VP44 and now I get a quick and accurate reading...I agree...always between the filter and the VP44.
