HELP! transmission won't engage in any gear
Hi guys, I've found alot of helpful threads on here for my problems. I have a 1999 dodge ram 2500 with 5.9L cummins 4x4 with the 47RE Trans.
A little background, I replaced governor pressure sensor and solenoid about 4 years ago, had purchased replacement ones from napa auto parts as a set. I replaced them because the truck was hesitating to shift from 3 to 4 and finally one day it threw the p1762 code so I swapped them out with new parts, new filter and filled back up with fluid. Solved my problem. About 2 years ago I came to a stop light truck just completely stalled on me as I came to a stop. Had it towed to a mechanic buddy of mine and he did some diagnosing and found the TC locked up. So I pulled Trans, my truck had an ATS torque convertor in it. So I went down to this local guy who just specializes in torque convertor at D&P products. He cut it open right in front of me and sure enough everything was all out of wack inside. He built me a new one with all new high end parts as I use truck to tow our Horse trailer. Put in new TC and still truck would stall when put into drive. Finally we found the torque lock valave spring in valave body had broke in half. Of course ATS didn't use standard size spring so after hassling them I finally got them to ship me just the replacement spring, they wanted to sell me a whole new valave body rebuilt kit for $400. The spring ended up costing me $1.50. The valave body I have is the valve body from ATS they build for towing rigs.
So last night my wife was towing Horse trailer home and she got on the freeway, she said it was sluggish getting up to speed and once she hit 60mph the truck jerked, like a really hard shift. RPMS shot up and then truck decelerated. I went out thinking maybe the throttle cable or spring on Trans broke. It was all in tact all fuses were good. When i put it in reverse the reverse lights come on but trans doesnt engage. Truck starts right up but no gear engagement in reverse or drive gears, I even tried with OD on and off and tried engaging 4x4 but still wouldn't shift into any gear. When I shift 4x4 into gear my light comes on but i didnt feel it engage. I have throttle but it's like my trans is no longer synced with my motor. I did find my front driveline was only on by 1 bolt and the other 3 sitting on the trans guard plate. I put them all back on but It didn't make a difference. So this morning I hooked up my OBD11 code reader and it has the code of p1762 gov pressure sensor offset volts too low or high.
Could my gov pressure sensor have just gone completely bad just like that? I haven't had any weird shifting problems prior to last night and it doing this. Could this be a band issue or a whole rebuild needed? I did check to make sure my TC was still connected to flywheel and it is, when motor is running the TC is turning in sync with it. I've searched low and high on all forums trying to find someone who has had same issue and I can't find anything similar to what I'm experiencing. Any help would be much appreciated.
I plan on just starting with the gov sensor and solenoid as it cheapest start, but any ideas are much appreciated.
