Default Buying first Cummins

I have been doing tons of reading and have learned a ton from everyone. Looking at a 01 Cummins sport 6speed 167,000 4x4 tomorrow all stock. Was wondering best way to quickly check fuel pressure to the vp44. My dad has a edge juice with the heads up display could a guy plug that into the obd2 and read the pressures I'm looking for? Carfax says vp44 was replaced in 9/24/14. How can I tell if it was a stock replacement or an aftermarket? tps was replaced twice. Once in 11' and again in'14 with the lift pump.
Thanks in advance can't wait to go look at her!

The edge will not tell you fuel pressure. You will need a pressure tester and it will connect to the test port on the side of the VP. As for telling if its stock replacement you will have to look at it. Where did it get replaced at? Dealer? If it was the dealer you can bank on it being a OEM replacement.

The pump was replaced here http://www.jmtireandautorepair.com/mobile/trinidad.html couldn't find a thread that have me pics to better help. Being that it was replaced in 14 would you think it would be okay to buy and throw a airdog lift pump on and some 2 stroke oil and she should last a while. Or do they go out faster than that?

Go for a FASS. Don't waste your time with airdog. Using 2 stroke will help your VP live longer. The fuel that was out when these trucks were new helped lubricate the injection pump better than the fuel we have now. Just add 1 oz per gallon of fuel you add to the tank and you should be good to go.
Also Make sure you pick up a fuel pressure gauge IF you buy the truck.

Oh I will for sure! Find a pic finally that would load. Hook it to the banjo bolt? That would read after filter pressure correct? The guy says it's a 56 block so I need to check for that also just to be sure. Any other advice? My dad has had two 12v before but 24v is new to me. Kdp was done on all our trucks. Some people say you have to and some say you don't on the 98.5-02 up. Thought? Thanks for the quick reply!

The KDP on the 24v's are rare but something worth checking. Better to buy a couple new gaskets and oil rather than a bunch of hard parts. Checking at the banjo bolt on the VP will give you pressure at the pump. Bosch specs the pump for a minimum of 10psi I wouldn't comfortably run below 15psi. As for your block you should have no issues with cracks. These trucks are different but its more of a labor of love.
Ha...as for the quick replies I have nothing better to do at work. Good luck on your potential purchase, and don't be afraid to walk away from the deal if somethings not right. There are more trucks out there and don't buy someone elses problem.

Well I bought it. Little beat up but 160,000 miles and zero rust! Front end has no grease in any of the zerks. I couldn't find any spot that said 53 block only think I found looks like a 48c? I'm thinking of buying a fuel pressure gauge and just that for right now to see my pressures. It's not chiped, would you think I would be okay not getting a boost or egt gauge for right now? Just fuel pressure and fass pump us what I'm thinking. Oh and 2stroke oil ashless?

You should be good with just a fuel pressure gauge right now. Don't get the DDRP fass get the 95 or 150. And congrats and welcome to the club.

Well got a fuel pressure gauge hooked up and 15 lbs at idle but by 2700 rpms I drop to 0. Fass pump here I come. Hope the VP isn't to bad off.
