Default P0216 and cold temps

Some help please. I didn't want to necro post in one of the other code threads. This is my first Diesel and I didn't find where the damn block heater plug was before the temp here in Tahoe dropped. Nor did I think to add an anti geling additive to my fuel. We get sub 20* temps about five nights a year.

Could extreme night time temps (0*F) and then trying to run the truck with potentially Gel'd fuel cause this code? If that is the case, can I move forward with degeling and not really worry about it or proceed with some other things such as a new fuel filter etc...

yes it can cause that code. Its a timing issue, if fuel is too thick, varnish on internals, low fuel pressure and bad psg can all cause the p0216 code.
