I am wanting to get a diesel to make pulling my camper easier and because they are more efficient that what I'm driving now. I want to stick to the 5.9 but not sure what is the best truck to look at. I love thee 12 valves but I would like more of a back seat than the extended cab so that puts me at the 24 valve. What would be the best years to look at and some of the things to watch out for. Like I said I have never owned a diesel but I want to get one and play around with it a little. Any input? Thanks in advance!

 

I love my 12valve also.
But if you are looking for one with a bigger back seat the mega cabs are very nice. And you can find them with the 5.9 before they went to the 6.7 motor. I believe they are from 2010/ to 2012 years. The only thing I don't like about the mega cabs are the beds are short beds.

 

Yea I noticed they made them with the 5.9 but I don't think I need that much back seat . I've been looking at the 03-04 years. They seem pretty solid.

 

03-04 isn't bad. With tuning I think you can get the most power out of them on a budget from random discussion across the web. Now comes the hard part finding one in your price range that's not beat up and wore out. I want to say I spent about 6 or more months searching the web before I found mine.

 

I've seen a megacab with a full sized 8' bed, but they seem to be quite rare.
