Default 01 Cummins Problems

Well guys I traded the 01 Auto in on a 01 6spd Shortbed today...... awsome truck 6spd, Xcab, 4X4, 111K miles, 2in lift with traction bars, gauges. Everything was great today trucks getting 14psi fuel pressure. Well i decide to do get me some Bio I have been using for the past few weeks with no probelms. Well I filll her up and about 3 miles down the road i notice my digital fuel pressure gauge is reading 3-4psi..... 2 more miles and WOW -10 psi..... I was like WTF. The she lost all power. She cant even go over 5mpg. Drive to a foodlion to park because at this time no auto parts store is open to get a filter. Im thinking either clogged filter due to BIO or I just got a bad batch of BIO. Funny thing is if i let her set turned off for a few minutes then start it back it idles fine for about 20-30 secs then it goes to ****. So what you guys think??? while shes doing 5mph just a little smoke. Truck is stock power wise. NO CODES

Clogged Fliter
Clogged Fuel Line
Bad BIO

Pretty much has to be fuel related..unless your fp guage took a dump which is kind of doubtful.

How much BIO did you put in and how much diesel was in the tank?

Change the fuel filter and see what happens or verify the pressure reading with a mechanical guage.

Sounds to me like there was some sort of fungus in the tank and the bio has killed it, or made it worse. Definately sounds like a plugged fuel filter, I would recomend running some biocide in it and carring a spare filter with you for a while. You are having the same symptoms that I had when I had a fungus in my tank, the biocide took care of it and I had to replace the filter twice in 500 miles, but ever since it has been good.

I'm guessing you are cleaning up the fuel system and just need to stay on top of the fuel filter for a while. Biodiesel can also grow more fungus if stored to long or to warm.
Biodiesel acts as a lubricant, which means that it can loosen deposits that are stuck in fuel lines and in the fuel tank, which in turn could clog fuel filters, injectors, or other parts of the fuel system. I would think it should straighten itself out after a while. Keep us informed of what you find out Luke.

Luke,

Change the filter and throw half a bottle of PS 911 in there and see what it does for you. The FP gauge isn't the problem here.

If you plan on running bio regularly you need more filters - get a big AD or FASS and keep the OEM under the hood as well. Plumb accordingly.

After running B20 for a few months, mine started losing pressure about 30 days after the last filter change and it was black so the bio must have been doing the cleaning we've read about. I changed the filter and it's been ok lately.
