Looking For More HP
Hi guys,
I'm just curious about my truck. It's an 01 24V and I need some advice on what to do with it. I want to start building more power but I've never done something with this many miles on it (345000). If I start putting more power into it, is there anything else I should do to make the engine strong enough to hold up to the new power? I'm trying to get to 500 HP before new years and I don't want to screw the motor up.

Is your motor truck stock?
If it is, i would recomend the standard exhaust and intake to start with. Then you could go with a good fuel pump system to help keep fuel going to your fuel pump. And also head studs to keep your head on when the cylinder pressures increase.
I would recomend filling out your signature so we know what you've done to your truck.

The truck is stock performance-wise. I'm not looking for tips how to add power, I just want to know if I have to modify anything like valve springs, head studds, piston rods, etc. I've never dealt with this many miles before (345000)
Your valve springs from the factory are usually good to 60 psi, they may be a little weaker by now but I doubt that you'll be over 45psi boost, so not a big deal. Like 97cummins said, you'll want to stud the head to keep it down. At 500 horse there shouldn't be any reason to replace rods unless there's already a problem. Have you checked the blow by?
The correct way to check for engine blow by is a manometer
The most common is just to watch the engine run with the oil cap off, Watch the vapors as they come out and try to determine if the vapors are extremely excessive or not
