This thread can probably get moved to the 24 valve section.

So can i just drain my sump and fill up with synthetic or is that not recomended? My tranny is shifting pretty smooth right now so i don't want to mess it up. I'll look at the notes from the previous owner to see when it was last changed. I've got pretty good records for this truck from Carfax and what I found in the back of the owners manual and I plan on keeping a notebook with all the work I do to it.

I got 15 on my first tank, 16 on the second with a long highway road trip and 13 after that fooling around a bit. Why are my numbers so much lower than what everyone else has been posting up? I haven't checked my overhead in a while these numbers are what I calculated from miles out of the tank topping it off.

Fresh filters, fluids, and oil change may help if you haven't done that already. APPS adjustment could possibly help too. https://www.dieselbombers.com/24-val...ting-apps.html

Like I already said, drop the pan, change the filter. Put in a B&M drain pug on the stock pan if you plan to keep it (this will eliminate most of the mess during future oil changes) Put a new gasket, reinstall the pan, and top off with fresh ATF +3 or +4.

There is a method for replacing all the fluid including whats in the converter - I will look for it.

AFT +3 or ATF +4
True. There is a reason you fill a converter up BEFORE installing it. Unless that's what you're going to do, don't bother trying to get every drop out.
