Cracked Timing Gear Housing....Help?
I recently changed my VP pump and didn't have it loose from the bracket on the block so when I kept turning the puller I think I pulled the gear into the timing gear cover, stressing the housing and causing an oil leak. When inspecting I discovered a crack all the way across the housing with grinding marks on both sides of the crack. I suspect it had been welded by previous owner. I just bought the truck a few months back and though I'm mechanically inclined, I don't have much experience with diesels. Questions:
1- Any body have any luck stopping this kind of leak with red silicone? It's not a pressure leak. 2- Any body have info/link for removing the cam properly? Thanks guys, first post. |
Doubtful any sealant will work long term, but you can try. Doesn't hurt to try, and doesn't cost much.
https://www.dieselbombers.com/5-9-li...g-numbers.html That is for a common rail, but the procedure is almost identical. Just a different fuel system. |
Thanks RAW. Fortunately when I got the cover off I found out what I thought was a crack in the housing was cast mark from the mold:jump::choochoo:
I'm just gonna get a KDP kit and put it all back together and try to live righter and hope it doesn't leak.:w2::w2: |
Right on! Always good when it works out like that. Good luck on the repair, hope it all goes well.
