Pulled head cylinders had lots of oil and coolant in them
Hello. Im seeking some guidance. Im working on a 2001 dodge 3500 4x4 auto. All stock. Heres the story. We got truck. Ran fine. Lift pump went we didnt know it. Soon after injection pump followed. I put a high output pump on it which didnt work. Wen it did crank up with high output pump it knocked. So i removed it and it sat for about 3 years i just recently put another pump on it. Amd everything went smooth cracked the lines and it fired right up. But it still had that same knock. It also started pouring out water and oil mixture from where head joins the block. So im thinking head gasket there. I cracked the injector lines one at a time. Made NO difference in knock. No difference between idle and WOT. It sounds like engine speed. I put stethascope on rockers and all sounds fine. On the injection pump its a little louder. On the timing cover where the hole is for the pump shaft nut is it sounds like its just pounding away right there behind the cover. Anyway. I just pulled the head off and there was water oil mixture in almost every cylinder. With the number 6 cylinder at the back having the most and gradually less and less to the front cylinders. The ports in both the head and block seem to be blocked by pieces of gasket. Idk tho i stuck a magnet to it and some of it is metal.... Maybe part or the gasket. I can see where it looks like thin layers of the gasket have chipped off. Im going to clean it up more tomorrow to inspect it but some input would be greatly appreciated
Yea its knocking with speed of engine. Think i found the problem. Of of my timing gears is missing 3 teeth from original pump lock washer falling down into there. Looks like only one gear is damaged just need help identifying the gear now. Looks like it connects to power steering pump
Found the knock. It was the vacuum pump. The lock washer from the original pump had fallen down into the timing cover. Luckily it only ate three gears off of the vacuum pump gear. Was lucky enough to pick one up for about 80 bucks. The motors runnig good now. Still need to get som guages though. Any suggestions? And i expect the tranny to go any time. Its slipping. I pulled the pan off and there was a keeper ring in the bottom. I asked a guy and he said it held OD in its still shifting good. Just slips a little every now and then. The rear end is makin one hell of a roaring going down the road to. Im thinking about rebuilding the transmission my self. I think its a 47re and everything ive read on it seems to sound pretty simple. Any input on it would be great. Ive never been inside of a tranission before tho.
