Most likely have to order it out of the states as no one in my area seems to know what tools are. Should have seen the fight with the parts guy to get a 2 9/16" socket for doing the hubs in the future. Have to order an entire kit, according to him 'They don't sell the socket individually anywhere in the world'.
Make sure you order the dial style. Any snap on or matco truck will stock them. I've never had issues pulling pinions with impact and taking it slow. It's how every gear train shop I've been in does it. Never honestly tried doing it by hand Napa also stocks the 2 9/16.

I live in literally the middle of no where, we have a locally owned parts store that carries alot of what the bumper to bumper chains carry, a napa is like a 2 hour drive for me so I just plan to order them online from now on. I love to support my local businesses but I just can't afford to buy every tool under the sun just to get the one I need!

i had a beem style torque wrench passed down and would imagine the.dana 70 is close to.the same not it uses the same center section so i would think the pinion would be close to the same

i actualy built my 2 9/16 socket thing cut strips of steel to the same shape put a worm clamp around them and welded them up nd put a piece.of 1/2 steel on top with the 1/2 hole for a braker bar to go into

I do know for sure it's a smaller pinion nut on the 70 than on the 80, I got the sockets for both but just can't think of the numbers off the top of my head. I could be wrong, usually am. The plan was to put the 80 I got into this truck as it is as it was rebuilt but I blew the 70 before I had a chance to get my spare driveshaft shortened and new u-bolts in so I have been collecting tools to work on them just in case. That's also why I am not too worried about messing up one of the 70 axels. 80 is a rebuild so I shouldn't have issues but you never know.
