Default Advice on Purchase of 99 2500

I found a 99 dodge 2500 at a local dealership. Asking for 7,000 it has 145,000 miles on it. My question to you guys what should I look for in this truck? What are the major issues that people are having with this truck besides fuel pump issues? I'm new to the diesel world so excuse me if I'm doing something wrong. Also what would be the first upgrades or mods you would do to this truck? Any info will help especially parts cost. Thanks in advance for any help.

One of the first mods I would recommend is for the fuel system. I have talked to people with that year motor that recommend that the draw straw be installed into the fuel tank, and the main fuel line be upgraded to I think they said it is a 1/2" from the fuel tank to the fuel pump. That way fuel is always pumped to your fuel pump and it doesn't burn up your fuel pump from lack of fuel.

usually a fass150 or airdog150 has 1/2" draw straw and 1/2" fuel lines from the tank to the injection pump. (like mine)

check if it is a 53 block or not... will either have raised numbering on the drivers side of the block, or it will be stamped in... its on the block right above the oil pan. bout an inch tall.. 53's tend to be a weaker block that may or may not crack on the passenger side above the freeze plugs and leak coolant.

if it isn't cracked and is a 53 I wouldn't really worry about it.

and if I was looking for a truck, I would look for a 4x4 with a manual transmission...
