00 Cummins 24v oil in turbo
Ok so I was changing the motor oil on my truck and when I took my K&N tube off the turbo I noticed some oil in the bottom of the turbo(see picture). I'm still pretty new to the world of Turbos but I'm thinking the seals are starting to go and I'm worried about runaway diesel. Is this(pictured) anything I should worry about or replace the turbo? Also, I've been shopping around for Turbos and my price range is $500. I read that china is now making knock off Holset turbos and have been known to literally blow up! I found a site with a OEM Holset turbo for my rig but not sure if it's a genuine Holset or a china knock off, here's the website 2000-2002 Dodge Ram Diesel 5.9L Cummins HY35W - Dodge - OEM Replacement Turbochargers
My truck is a 2000 Dodge 2500 24v stock truck. If there is a turbo nut out there I could really use a schooling on these things! Thanks

For one k&n is not a good filter for a diesel.. And it's blow by not a big problem mine is the same way. You can try takin of the k&n filter and get a cheap 30 dollar filter and put it in it and see if it is getting less oil in the turbo..
yeah more then likely the k&n, they are oil treated to prevent dust and dirt for gassers... therefore could be your turbo just sucking the oil out of it. some people have this problem some dont. possibly purchase a bhaf for 40 something dollars from local napa
i agree, i had the k&n and was showing the same signs. switched to a bhaf and no more sticky stuff. if the seals were a problem though im not sure if you would even notice much buildup on the intake side of things?? anybody know the answer to that one
What a relief!
I will definitely look into changing out that air filter! Thanks for the help guys and I'm interested in the question stated by Shane Bob, would you see oil on the intake side if seals have failed?

I don't have any play in the shaft and I still have good boost and seems to be spooling up like it normally does. I believe it's my air filter as well, I will check it again in 4k miles when I change my oil.
Part number is 6637, not 6673.
