rough at idle, white smoke, lack of power
Hi I'm new at this.
I have a 1998.5 cummins 24 valve with a fass lift pump, 4 in manderal bent exust. one mornnig i started it up and let it warm up for ten minutes and then drove two blocks down the road and it just up and died and would not restart. checked fuel pressure and had 16psi. cracked open injector lines and had no fuel. ran code scan and had a code for injection fuel metering malfunction a, and IP controller malfunction. I then had my IP replaced and now it runs rough at any RPM, lack of power and white smoke out of the tailpipe. still have 16psi after filter any Ideas ? Thanks

So you have had you Injection Pump replaced already? and you have 16 PSI after replacing fuel filters, and you still have these issues. Now does you diesel smell like fuel or gained any oil. Because if you have diesel in your oil it indicates you have a bad injector.
Next set of questions do you have a programmer if you do, disconnect it and run the truck without it and see if it helps the problems.
If not, It can be Crank, or cam sensors. Even a map sensor. But lets keep it simple though first and also check your air filter make sure its in good shape.
WORSE CASE: You have poor compression and you need new rings.
Best Case: its something simple and its most likely simple.

Yes it can also be the turbo, and if it was the cam or crank you would see it in your tach too. And throw an CEL. And a turbo will cause a proablem also, but it happened after you replaced the IP. But im not gonna rule it out. As for the 53 Block it wouldent cause these issues if it cracked it would actually be difficult to tell if you had a anti frezze leak untill you ran it for some time. But I wouldent worry bout it. Im gonna be traveling home today so I will try to get on tonight after my 10 hour drive.

OK today I started it and let it warm up to operating temp and broke open the fuel lines. When 2,3,5,6 where cracked open individually I got a change in rpms. When I cracked open 1 and 4 individually no change in rpms and the same both cracked open. There is fuel to them and I have replaced both injectors no change. Any ideas ?
