Im looking to buy a new(to me) truck. I have found a 2000 2500, that i really like. The problem is i know 98.5-02 have had issues with the lift and injector pumps. With a 167k on the motor I am worried that I will get it home and within a few months I will have to put $1500 into replacing the pumps. I am also wondering about the transmission in these rigs. When do they typically go out? He is trying to get $8200 out of it. Does any one have any advice?

 

My truck has 238K on the originall transmisson, The injection pump on those trucks are as good as any out there, the problem is the Lift pump, if it dies it will take the injection pump with it, so if you make sure the IP gets enough fuel from the LP you will be ok. I would ask if he has replaced the injection pump at all, and how often does he check the Lift pump fuel pressure. the lift pump is 160 bucks for a stock one and you can put 400 bucks for a FASS lift pump with a four year warranty. What keeps the trannies happy on these trucks is frequent fluid changes and adjusting the bands! thats why the fail so much... Lack of knowledge and care...

 

before you go and buy that truck, i would check and see if it has a 53 block or not. i cant remember if 2000 had that problem but dont buy it if it has a 53 block

 

How do I tell if it has a 53 block?

 

it will be up in front of the bock near the oil pan, and as much skeptisim of the 53 Block its not the end of the world, there were over 150K blocks made, and not all were put in dodges, and 53 is only the designation of the manufacturer of the time period and not neccesairly the production run there are many 53 blocks out there still running strong but the 51 block just gives you that blanket of comfort. I know several 53 with over 200K on them, but mine is not one of them. But if you go look at that truck just see how it steers and drives. I
