Default looking at buying a 2002 2500 cummins

Hey guys I was wandering if I could get your opinion..... A buddy of mine is selling his 2002 2500 5.9 cummins. It is an extended cab long bed with 160000 miles. The fuel pump was replaced 40k miles ago along with 50hp injectors.. The tranny was completely done with billet input and output shafts 5k miles ago. The bod is pretty solid just a little surface rust around the rear fender wells.. He is asking $8000 for it cause that is all they will give him on trade in.. I drove the truck and the you can feel in the steering wheel a slight popping and the steering is pretty loose. Do you think it is worth it???? And what else should I look for as far as problem areas with it. I know you guys know these trucks inside and out sso any help or input will be greatly appreciated!

sounds like a deal to me even if you have to dump some money into the front end if its 4 wheel drive

yes it is 4 wheel drive and it does work.. i talked to a local trusted front end and alignment shop and they said between $800 and $1200 to fix the frontend depending on what is worn out

Sounds like a great deal to me. No matter what truck you buy, you'll have things to do to get it up to a maintenance level. But compare to a $40-50,000 new truck and you'll get much better mpg.
