Default Help please!!!!

I have a 2001 ram 2500 with a 24v cummins engine! I'm having a couple of issues with my truck at start up. When starting cold(first time of the day, regardless of the weather) she blows a lot of white smoke and sputters pretty bad. I have talked to a couple of diesel guys and one said injectors, the other scanned the truck and said the pump was out of time! If the pump was out of time, wouldn't it miss all the time??? The truck has to idle around 10 minutes in order for it to run right when I get started driving. Once she is warm, she runs fine most of the time but occasionally will lag on taking fuel and occasionally blows grey/blue smoke. Do you have any suggestions or advice???

Sounds like a fuel problem. dont think you couldve slipped a tooth or something like that? Maybe its just someting like one of your injectors. Hopefully its not anything expensive!! best of luck

Does it start right up or crank for a while then start? Could be a sticking injector.

It cranks right away. Most of the time it idles fine as soon as I crank it, but if I don't let it run for around 10 minutes. It misses when I give it fuel.

Check for codes. Try the key trick to check for codes. My 2002 did the same thing, white smoke until warmed up, then ran fine. Code indicated cam position sensor. Changed that and no more problems. My 02 only had a cam position sensor. Earlier models, not sure when they changed, had both a cam position sensor and a crank position sensor. The cam position sensor is a real pain to get to. It is behind the VP44.

If it is the cam sensor, you can actually reach it from underneath the truck. How is your tack working, if your having problems with it, it is your crank shaft sensor. Above and behind the starter. It can cause problems with power. Sounds like injector and possibly fuel filter.

When it lags, it's little to no throttle response. If I try to drive it cold, it misses something fierce and blows white smoke. I don't ever just start it up and take off though, I always let it warm up first.

Also, it will occasionally stumble when pulling out in first gear. It doesn't do it through any gear but first?????

Also, for what it's worth, my truck is throwing codes 0500, 0216, and 1693. I know 0216 is code for dead vp, but it already has a reman vp on it. So that code could be stored from when it was changed before, right??? I guess I need to have the codes cleared and see if it throws anything again?? Could it be an APPS issue???
