The 16 is nice because it doesn't raise egt's much but spools great. ! down fall I've found on long climbs if you lugging it a lil it wants to shudder. drop a gear or give her enough fuel for another 5lds boost it stops.

with what you have done to the truck on a stock chargter find a 12cm i personally wouldnt go any more than a 14cm. i hade bookooo hp on a hx35. 12s spool so much faster. get a gated housing and be done. if you choose to run no gated i wouldnt run anything smaller than a 16 for safety.

If you haven't noticed stock 1st gens came with a 18 and 21cm non gated housings so what's you big deal with running non gated housings?

drive pressure. they came with such monster housing so they coulnt overboost and blow apart. that is why ALL 2nd gen and up turbos have wastegates and smaller housings. MUCH MUCH MUCH better spool times and safe because they have gates. a 12 or 14 without a gate on a small turbo is asking for trouble. blown HG busted turboes melted exhaust valves ect. thats why crimping the waste gate line is a huge mistake. becasue max efficiency can be gotten from them while still utilize the gate.

all your doing with a 16cm housing is moving the power curve up a bit. it wont make any more power because intake flow is the same it will just take longer to get to max flow. it most likely will run just a few degrees cooler nothing significant. total power will be the same lag will be more. i would run a 16 non gated because drive pressures can be kept reasonable with a stock engine. they cannot with a 12 or 14cm housing that is why a gate is nessicary.

Good point but a 12 and 14cm housing are still restrictive on a modded truck. I know drive pressure is an issue just never really think about it much I guess.

almost all aftermarket turbos are 12 or 14cm housings. unless they are the big bottom chargers for twin set-ups. they are not to small they are whats best. you just have to run the appropriate gate. whats restrictive is the 60mm turbine wheel and the 54mm compressor wheel on the H1c that is your limit they cant move the appropriate volume of gasses.

-ever compare the siz of a H1C to an HX35?
-why is the hx such a better turbo and every one wants to upgrade to it from there 1st gen stocker?

H1c 54-60-18 or 21.5
HX 56-58-12

these turboes are VERY similair other than the housings same vasinity in HP potential just a much more usable power band

Yeah I have I'm running an hx35 on my truck but really should be running an s300 or something like that. I've always been told 12cm is good till 350hp and 14cm about 400hp. Then they get to restrictive.

depends totally on the turbo man. an hx runs out of steam at 350 ponies for sure

sooo...??? with what youve been told a stock H1C should be able to make way more power than a 66/74/14? it has a bigger housing right?

and im not trying to be a smart A$$, just learn you something
