Default blown headgasket

i am almost 100% sure i blew my headgasket today when the truck over heated severely and the problem came along when the tranny cooler lines bursted last night ad i drove it home wile leaking coolant but today it over heated and pegged the guage in the dash and i have coolant down the entire side of the block (same side as trubo) and now when i start it it sounds like there is no compression and cranks more rapidly than normal for 3-5 seconds then starts up. if it is deffinately the head gasket< i am going to yank this motor and drop in a p-pumped 12v and an nv4500 behiond it. i am done with working on this truck because of my own stupidity. any input is much appreciated.

also there is plenty of coolant in the engine!!

I would love to have your fresly blown up engine.... I have a 7.3 but want a 12v presonally there better in pulling.... my truck is set up for towing but putting a turbo on my IDI is just not worth it....

3-5 seconds is not a fast start up for 1st gens, ive owned only 1st gens all different years and they all cranked over in 1 sec. at the most some as soon as i turned to key, you may wanna look into that as well...... sorry about the head gasket tho, honestly im not poking fun but next time walk home......it would have been worth it dude.

my advice is take the head off and send it to a machine shop for decking. they also will check for cracks. put the head back with a cummins brand gasket and new bolts

ya i made a stupid mistake. i used the snap on diesel head gasket tester that sniffs for c02 in the coolant and it turned bright green with in 2 sniffs. i am gonna do a cumming .20'' gasket with stock head bolts right now becuase i cant afford ARP studs but i think it blew due to the hx35 i put on and i dont know what the previous owner set the waste-gate to. any ways can anybody show me a site to buy new stock head bolts?

i didnt mean that it usually starts up that fast it spun the crank more rapidly than normal wich made me beleive it was leaking compression but any ways i tore into it and im down to the head bolts going to be pulling the head off tonight should i look for cracks in the block at all? and also the hx35 i got has no return line to the compressor housing from the waste gate wich caused me to over boost where should i run that line too??

no bottom tapping just clean the holes out good. you can take a old long bolt and put about 3 streaks with a die grinder and make you a thread cleaner. call if you need help.

welp just got the gasket off and the head. the cylinders are absolutely mint can still see the honing marks, the head is in check no cracks and is only off by ".2000's of an inch. very happy man right now with the way things are going
