So where is the best place to find a tach that will work and what am I looking to spend on it?

So am I understanding correctly that the wiring under my dash for the tach will not make just any tach work? I was confused cuase I hooked up to that but I get no signal so no tach.:humm:

I've used 2 aftermarket tachs just fine from my factory connector. My truck is a 93.

I had to set each tach to 4cyl mode to get accurate readings.

I am thinking the chrysler ecm sends out signal to the tach as if it were a 4 cyl for who knows what reason but it works!

You will get a reading but it's far from being accurate! I did the same thing with my Auto Meter 5k WOT read around 1800 when set to 4cyl. Now with the Dakota module I can see it rev up to it's full 3200 WOT. Idle now shows 750 in park.

Both of the tach's i've tried. Idle ~800, wot ~3300.

I have 3200 rpm spring installed.

I have also used the online gear ratio calculators to figure my rpm's at different speeds and they all line up.

Works just fine for me.
