Default New to this 1st gen's, need some help.

I'm new to the site here, and may be buying a 1st gen cummins for a first vehicle and was wondering if anyone could help me. I'm lookin for some modifications i could do to increase power along with fuel mileage some, wanna be economical and not spend too much money on it though. Any help would be appreciated!
