727 grind
#2
Don't know much about Dodge Auto trans but mine started to shudder and make funny noises. When I pulled it apart the tailshaft splines had taken out the alum. splines in the planitary at the back. and my sprag clutch was shot. Hope you have better luck, but I would drain it to see how much debris in pan!

Have not found one yet.I can buy a whole truck for what I need to pay for the 727 at a scrap yard and at least I can drive the truck to see how the trans performs. I don't know that much about Dodge or their transmissions, but I thought the 727 was a good old standby. I guess it can't stand up to the diesel torque? I am not really wanting do try to upgrade to a newer trans, but I think the cost would be about the same!

Mine is still setting, I keep looking for something reasonably priced and not so much work. No luck so far. I keep loking at the Allison, but that is a big chunk of metal to stuff in there! My main plan was to stuff the whole driveline in my '49 F-3, but the Dodge was such great shape that I thought I would keep it. Either way I was planning on using the 727.
