Default Turbo upgrade.

Best turbo for hauling?? Would like to upgrade my turbo. Nothing too fancy, because I don't want to mess with my injectors right now. Or should I? Wonder what you guys think. I am going to put an air dog on it.

You could upgrade your stocker with a 60mm and 14 or 16 cm housing but it all really depends on what you want you want to spend and what your future plans are.

just a stock hx35 or wh1c is a good upgrade from your h1c. a 62mm turbo is a good step up from that. keep a smaller housing on it. 12 or 14

Wouldn't I want the bigger housing? I would guess that I need all the CFM's I can get. And what are you guy's feelings on the he351?

he351 is a good stock turbo. much better than the h1c. and the bigger exhaust housing allows more gasses to excape making spool time slower. your turbo is like a 21cm housing its nickname is the lag o matic. it sucks. a factory hx35 is a 12cm WAY better spool up. if your gonna run you hx and force feed the fuel to it look into a 14 because you cant move enough air intake side to cool things down adequatly.

The '93 has an 18cm not a 21cm from factory.

OP: I wouldn't go lower than a 14cm for towing (16cm for heavy towing) or if you're willing to do some work a 351VGT would be a great turbo since it has a built in "exhaust brake" If you want a 351CW I know of a place out of Colorado selling them new but they aren't cheap, due to popularity, and you could probably go with an s300 for about the same cost.

is said like. a he351 and the VGT -i believe- have a 9cm2 housing. i will argue the fact that a near stock truck needs a 16cm housing, thats 1 reason why the h1c gets a bad wrap its slow as hell to spool. im well over 300hp with a 12cm and NEVER see over 1200 on the pyro! the bigger housings make for more lag because more gasses can slip by the turbine wheel. look at all the mild hp turbos sold. they almost ALL come with a 12 or 14 housing.

Do not use a smaller housing for towing. Period. Unless you wish to repeat my mistakes.

Quicker spool will more than offset the lag effect of a big housing for egt control with up to moderate fuel levels and towing with stock injectors in a 1st gen.
