Default NO CHARGE!!! NEED HELP!!! FED UP!

Ok, I have a 92 Dodge Ram W350 4x4 5 Spd.

When I bought this truck it was a little ragged out but only has 140,000 original miles and I know that for a fact because I know the original owner really good.

When I first bought it I had the transmission rebuilt, New A/C compressor, 2 New A/C lines, New Dryer, New Condensor, New Evaporator, New Expansion Valve, Replaced every fluid in it with the best stuff you can buy and changed every single filter on it and all new light bulbs on the whole truck and new wiper blades and it already had new tires on it, next week I'm putting new shocks, brakes, bleeding brakes, checking berrrings, and puting new tire rod ends and a new power steering pump, I've already replaced all the gear oil in the rear end, front end and transfer case and after all that im sanding it down and repainting the whole truck inside and out and re-doing the interior but enough bragging about it and on to my problem.

I Put a new Alternator on it, Re-wired the intire wiring harness for the motor and I know it's right, Had the ECM rebuilt for not charging, New Semi/Heavy Duty Battery, and new battery terminal ends for the positive and negative wires, I also replace all of the fuses with new ones but still no charging, I don't know what else to do!!!! Any idea's???

I can't find a voltage regulator on the truck? Is it in the ECM? And also it IS charging it's just not enough, I think it's putting out 7 Volts and 30 Amps.

Any Idea's on what it could be??????

Was it a new alternator or a reman? Occasionally they don't work right out of the box.

Well its either the alternator or the ECM. I would have the alt bench tested, then look at the ecm next. Or possibly a ground issues, sounds wierd but i have seen more problems stem from grounds than you would think.

It was a "new" one from O'reileys and it was the best i could get, after i did everything and put the rebuilt ECM on i had it tested at the battery and it was low, so i went ahead and got another alternator and put it on lastnight and its doing the same thing so it cant be the alternator and i re-did the wire harness and all the ground should be correct. But another thing it's a 92 and pretty dang sure there isnt an external voltage regulator, well whats the black sylinoid little square things on the side of the fender on the drivers side? That one of the alternator wires go into??? Do i need to replace them? Would it hurt?

I got my truck 2 mo ago and it was not charging, I installed an external voltage regulator from Napa(16.00) and works fine, the only issue is that it pulsates and is a little annoying. Perhaps if the external was a Mopar part (better quality) will be ok.

I plan to go to a shop that fixes alternators and starters and chat with the guys, I am sure that they can produce good replacement parts for short money. the other option is possibly replace the computer (behind the battery) but is expensive 300+. good luck

Well I have been told the voltage regulator is in the ECM and I sent it off and had it rebuilt but still no go, but if I were to put an external regulator what wires do I wire to it??? And about where at could I do it??? And today I put a new turn signal switch thingy in the steering column, cuz a guy said there's alot of wires and all that that goes through it and it was worn out and needed to be replaced and he said that could be it, so I replaced it and still nothing... Idk i'm just fed up and don't know what else to do......

or it could be a crank sensor. Id get out a scan tool and look at the data stream. Mine unplugged its self one night and it stopped charging. Im not saying thats whats wrong, nor am i advising you go out and buy one to "try" it. Also the ASD relay controls charging along with fusible links.

Where is the crank sensor located? And where is the ASD relay located? Cuz there is 2 things unplugged on the driver side of the motor but one i think is the water in fuel sensor on the fuel filter.

Most likely it is the crank sensor. Look for something close to the damper with a wire coming out of it. May just need clearanced or cleaned to start sending a signal. If the ECM doesn't see the crank signal it thinks the truck is not running and won't charge the battery. But on the other topic, I'd go with an external VR anyway. More reliable and alot easier/cheaper to fix.
