Default Can heating oil be used as fuel?

Hello guys,

I am a plumber and when we do a conversion of oil to gas boiler sometimes we end up whith a lot of left over heating oil. I was told that heating oil is the dame as diesel except less refined? If I filter the oil can this be used safely with out risk of damaging mechanicals or seals?

Tx gonzy

All it is, is #1 diesel. Add some sort of biocide to it first to kill off any microbes (algae), filter it really good, then add a really good lubricant as #1 is "dry" compared to #2.

ya i run home heating fuel for a good portion of the year. just keep up with you fuel filter and run some additives with it and you should be good to go. my truck runs much smoother on it as well.

As others said i know it will run on it with some lube.

Question is do you want to be caught with non-road taxed fuel?

Something that helps with adding lubricity to the fuel.

Lot of guys run 2 cycle oil. Don't need much, some run 100:1 and leaner. Auto parts stores and truckstops have more options also

Heating oil is # 2 fuel, not #1. You only have #1 if the tank is to be outside in very cold weather. Usually #1 is referred to as Kerosene or K1. I have run heating oil for years in my off road and boats. During the winter I have the delivery guy spit me 30 % K1 and 70 % #2 to make it so it does not gel.
