Default new tranny or new truck

ok so i have an 89 w250 4x4 with a 727 automatic, i was thinking doing a getrag swap or 47rh swap, either or is gonna cost an arm and a leg. i have to do something in the tranny department or should i just sell my truck and get a 2nd gen or gen one with a getrag. my truck has 155000 miles with 95000 miles on the new p pumped engine, just dnt know what to do

i would do an NV4500 swap into your truck since you have the newer engine maybe go to a local junk yard and pull one out of a wrecked truck

You should be able to use the 1st gen t case behind the nv4500. I think you just have to remove an oil seal out of one or the other.

Why not get the 727 rebuilt with a shift kit, new bands, steels, whatever, and put a decent torque converter in front of it?

Probably end up being alot less time, money and hassle.

That's what the tighter torque converter is for. A 46RH won't give any better mileage without a tighter converter as well, unless you are running all highway miles locked in OD. That doesn't sound like what you are doing.

But I would agree the manual sounds best for your application. Just a big, expensive job doing the swap...
