rear diff woes
So i've been off here for a while. Truck went down in april. I thought it was a tranny bearing. I did a complete bearing rebuild (roller and needle). Put it back together finally. Drove it about a week and lost pulling power. Couldn't even make it home. Said screw it till after vaction. Got it up and started to get ready to pull tranny. Now my rear end has had some lash for awhile (200,000 mi) I started turning the pinion yoke and noticed ALOT of lash. Pulled the rear cover and took a look, didn't notice anything unusual in the oil. So I reached and twisted the pinion. DAMN, the left side of the ring gear carrier moved up and down. Then noticed themagnet on therearcover S#$^%. I pulled the bearing caps and had no rollers in the left side. My bearing imploded and sent the rollers up the left side tube, at least it didn't end up in the ring and pinion.
Now for the question to this looong post. Does the exciter ring only control the ABS on a manual truck? I have my ABS disconnected. My speedo is connected to the tranny.
Because appearantly that clunk I heard was the bearing and have the sensor is eat away, along with some of the ring.
