Default Feedback on possible truck purchase - help me decide

I am interested in a 1993 D250 LE 2wd auto truck with 197k miles on it. My concern is that it had an unknown number of 5th wheel trailer towing miles during some of its life. I don't know how many of the 197k miles are heavy towing miles and how many are not. Also, the truck has pyro/boost/trans temp gauges and a banks kit which is nice but it also has a US gear exhaust brake in it. The fact that it has an exhaust brake leads me to believe the truck has been used to tow HEAVY in its life. That said, I don't really want to buy a truck that may run well and test drive well unloaded but has had the living snot towed out of the cummins motor during its 197k miles. It is too bad getting a compression check on the motor is not a quicker process. If overall body, interior and apparent condition seem excellent, what is everyone's opinion given this concern. Current owner has had it since 1998 and the 5th wheel usage was from the 1st owner (as told to me by current owner). No 5th wheel in it now. Owner's asking price is $5800

Here is a link to some photos of it:

Price sounds a bit high to me. You'd be able to find a really nice truck that hasn't towed if you're willing to spend that on a 2wd truck. You'd be able to find a decent 4wd truck for that. Otherwise, these trucks are made to tow...

I wouldnt let the towing part bother me. Mine has 160k of grossing 20k+ and still runs great. If it was well maintained and driven responsibly its probably a good truck. I'll take one with 200k miles of heavy hauling before I buy one with 200k of grocery getting miles but thats just me.

Agreed. Price is pretty high especially for a 2wd. Also, he probly just towed a camper or a horse trailer and just got an exhaust brake so he didnt have to get a brake job every time went outta town. You might also want to get rebuild kit for the rear end.

Thanks for the feedback. Look forward to more. I agree, there are many getting exhaust brakes to save long term on brake wear. Didn't think of that. Also, I could pull a carfax and then I might be in a position to know how many of the miles were from the original owner and potential 5th wheel and heavy towing miles.

I think you should but this truck, Looking at the pics this looks like it was owned by people who care about looks and keeping it clean. The miles dont bother me at all and this truck would get 6 grand out west. This is just my input, 12 valves are getting a little pricey$$$ where is this truck, what town and state, I would like to look at it in person.

The pics aren't working for me, so I can't talk about price, but my rig was used heavily for seven years as a tow pig dragging a toy hauler, and it's in great shape. These trucks were built to tow, and I wouldn't let that scare me off at all.
