Default Bleed rear cylinders before rear ABS unit?

I would guess I should bleed the rear drums first, then the rear abs unit and then work my way up front. I already bled out the truck but the ABS and BRAKE lights are on. I'd like to try a new bleeding procedure to see if I can fix the light.

David,

Did you get that backwards? Bleed from rear to front is what I think you meant?

That's always been the way I've done it (rear to front that is). You usually start with the most hydraulically remote point and work closer to the master cylinder.

To the best of my knowledge, that's as per the FSM.

The sequence allows removing any air from the line(s) starting at the master-cylinder, and working your way outward.

>Technically, I left out starting with the master-cylinder.<

Think of it as though one were flushing the old fluid out with new fluid. Start at the source, and work outward.

Ok sounds good. I am just trying to get the ABS and BRAKE lights off even though the brakes feel good. I am guessing its just some silly problem with the ABS pump in the back and not actually a bleeding problem but I'll go back through it and see what happens.

It's probably a problem with the ABS sensor or wiring, and I've always been told start bleeding at the farthest away from the master cylinder and work in.

Un-hook your battery for 1 minute and hook it back up. Have had this happen a few times when doing stupid 360's on the brakes and had the PCM get a little confused. This should reset your PCM and turn the light off.

Ok so all I did was bleed from RR to LR and the light went out. Thanks to all everyone for help! The brakes are so strong now that its scary!

Folks, I apologize. I was incorrect.

The 1993 FSM says:

1 - Master Cylinder.
2 - RWAL Control Valve.
3 - Right/Rear.
4 - Left/Rear.
5 - Right/Front.
6 - Left/Front.

That's what I get for quoting the FSM without having the FSM in front of me. Sorry guys.
