Default Headlights are surging

My headlights seem to be doing a little surging, they will stay bright for a sec at idling, then dim down, then bright again. I noticed this on my 2nd gen too, could it be my voltage regulator going south?? If so, do they make one thats heavier duty?? I've never noticed this until now throught the years of ownership

sounds like a capacitor on the alternator went out. its used to smooth out the voltage from the alternator so you dont get highs and lows. i do not think its serviceable.
