Default Killer Dowel Pin...In 1st Gens.

Do you 1st gens. have the same issue as the 2nd gens. with the dowel pin following out of position? And the same repair kit could work for both engines, right?

I just picked up a 1992 dodge ram 250 4x4 auto, and i dont want to lose half the value of the truck because of a cheap little pin.

But the pins are a relatively rare problem on first gens. Still possible, but not as likely. I hear that timing case bolts do damage more often than the pin.

the repair kit is different for the 89-93 trucks, then the 94-98.5 the kit is actually the same for the 24v's as it is the first gens

I did the kdp repair on my dad's 95' the same day as my 92'. His was maybe 1/8 inch sticking out of the hole. Mine was deep in the hole. The 95' was flat around the hole where the 92' had a boss cast around the hole which i think helps to hold the dowel pin in. Just my experience.

1st gens didnt have locktite on the case bolts. need to remove em one by one and clean and red locktite em.

the tab is different for 1gen than for 2nd gen. hbowers is the only one who makes the tab kits for the 1st genners.

I would imagine you can make the retainer washer and bolts, generally are available at the hardware store...Im going to just get the seals I need then do it without a kit.

Just get the seal and case gasket from cummins and make your own retaining washer. I peened around the the dowel pin and made a washer out of coat hanger wire. Worked great. I did my dad's 95' and my 92' the same day. There are some suttle differences.
