Default A/C not working

We replaced my heatercore a couple days ago, and everything went great, my A/Cs not working now. It seems my compressors not kicking on. How much freon do I need? If it's low on freon will my compressor not kick on? What about air in my lines? Could that pressure switch be bad? Freakin A/C

If you opened the AC system you lost all your freon. our trucks take 36oz. of R12 for 1992 and older and r134 for 1993+. you will need to vacuum the system prior to refilling it to remove any moisture. FYI r 12 is very expensive. 20+ for a can (12oz.) you could convert to 134 but its not as cold and its also a smaller molecule so your more prone to leaks.

to answer your question if there is no freon the compressor will not kick on.

This past summer while I was charging the a/c system, the compressor was kicking on and off,(while charging) possibley cycling, maybe? Now It doesn't even kick on. The blowers working, but it's just not cold, cold. So, anything else I could look fer, or possibley do? My buddie gave me a bunch of the DIY cans of 134, so thats what I'm using. What, or how do I remove all the air in my charging system??

sounds like I need mo freon ehh.

OK youve got a couple things going on at once here that are not helping you.

1. how did you replace your heater core and manage to not disconnect the evaporator?
2. Im assuming your truck is converted to R134 which has a molecule that is 10x smaller than R12 so leaks basically leak more.
3. The compressor will cycle while your charging and should cycle with a full charge.
4. To remove the air you have to vacuum the system with a special vacuum pump. Not the hand held ones but big ones that plug into the wall and run for at least 20 minutes.
5. you can fill it back up but you will have the same problem in a few months.

by the way 36oz. of R12 is not the same as 36oz. of R134. there is a conversion you need to do. Im not sure what it is, I just keep mine filled with R12. Gets to about 30* in the summer.

I did pull the evap as well with the heater box. Goldie was converted to 134 a couple years ago. My a/c worked great up until this summer, and I added 3-11oz cans of R134, 2 ultra synthetic crap, 1 leak sealer crap, and it worked perfectly until the heater core replacement a couple days ago. If Goldie wasn't converted (like I thought) then what. Did I just waste 3 more cans of 134 now? Can you mix R12 and R134, what happens. Did I F something up maybe?? I gota have a/c, Even though it's about to snow now. Helps on the resale

if you took out the evaporator then you would of lost all your freon. The reason i say you have a leak is because; when you took that evaporator off, and if it had a full charge, there would have been an explosion of freezing liquid that very easily could have blinded you. You would notice that, and since you can still use the computer i say you leaked it all out before. Basically find the leak and fill it with 134 if you choose. you can NOT mix 134 and 12 together.

can you get some nitrogen or co2? if ya charge your system with it and see if it holds and for how long if it holds good then vacuum it for at least 2-24 hours get it good and dry then charge as needed until full if your worried about the compressor just unplug it and put power and ground to it and it should lock up the clutch
