Default Coolant smell questions

I've just started to notice a coolant smell, very faint, but coolant. I'm not loosing any, and theres none inside my cab, at least that i can feel, or notice on the carpet. I'm checking for hose leaks( there all new, every one, new radiator) and I notice that big fat clear vent tube is kinda smoking, where I can see it smoking kinda, is my headgasking going south? My oils black, and it smells no different, I've never noticed that before. It's not running hot, I gota new Cummins T-stat, I have noticed the last couple of days sometimes my oil idiot light sometimes doesn't work.

Also, on my factory LP, is the primer lever supposed to be down or in the up position, mine I never noticed how it's been, I don't want any IP problems It clicks in the up position, and just kinda of floats in the down position. Is that how it's supposed to be?? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Billy D

If I recall, and someone might correct me, it does not matter if its up or down.

Lots of options for the smell... Look on the side of the block to see is the gasket is leaking outside, right were the head meats the block. If your smelling it inside though its either a big leak or your heater core. Also how new are your new hoses? If you just replaced them could you be smelling coolant from when you drained it to change them?

Could this tie in with your heat not working? Maybe it is the heater core thats causing both your problems.

The LP lever is supposed to be in the up position I just put a new one on mine and it springs up by its self.
