Default Downsides to Changing Timing

So I was wondering (it happens sometimes).....I bumped the timing on my truck about 2-3 degrees and it was like driving a whole new truck. It seemed to spool quicker, launch better, everything seemed a little more driveable. So now that I probably can't live without it, what sort of side effects etc. can be expected? Higher EGT's? Decreased engine life? Or is this truly a freebie?

cylinder pressures increase and well as cylinder temps. they say you can lose low end torque but i didnt notice that. not a big deal with just a little bump. its pretty much a win-win overall IMO. i have probably 5* timing added plus the spacer and i like it and havent noticed anything bad.

While you show a lower EGT on the gauge (in the manifold) more heat sits on top of the cylinder causing higher pressures, this is due to the combustion process having longer to do its thing before being shoved out the exhaust valve.. For a mild truck 1/8" is usually a good start maybe a little less if you tow much.

I run 2 jumped teeth and pump to the head in my truck.

Interesting that you mention the higher cylinder pressures.
Does this generally make them a bit noisier?
Reason I ask, is that I did about a 1/4" on my old flatbed, and it seems like it's noisier in the combustion event than it was.
Especially when she first fires off cold.

Of course, I just "HADDA' " add in some fuel, and a 3200 spring while I had the pump down.

Mark.

it will sound louder... i guess in a more mechanical sound. mines 1/4" advanced and it sounds good but it doesnt sound stock.

The power is awesome at WOT but DD its a big pain in the *** and I'm scared every time I get on it hard... I would not recommend it at all... One tooth and leaving room to play with the pump is what I'm going back to.
