Downsides to Changing Timing

Downsides to Changing Timing
So I was wondering (it happens sometimes).....I bumped the timing on my truck about 2-3 degrees and it was like driving a whole new truck. It seemed to spool quicker, launch better, everything seemed a little more driveable. So now that I probably can't live without it, what sort of side effects etc. can be expected? Higher EGT's? Decreased engine life? Or is this truly a freebie?

cylinder pressures increase and well as cylinder temps. they say you can lose low end torque but i didnt notice that. not a big deal with just a little bump. its pretty much a win-win overall IMO. i have probably 5* timing added plus the spacer and i like it and havent noticed anything bad.

While you show a lower EGT on the gauge (in the manifold) more heat sits on top of the cylinder causing higher pressures, this is due to the combustion process having longer to do its thing before being shoved out the exhaust valve.. For a mild truck 1/8" is usually a good start maybe a little less if you tow much.
I run 2 jumped teeth and pump to the head in my truck.

Does this generally make them a bit noisier?
Reason I ask, is that I did about a 1/4" on my old flatbed, and it seems like it's noisier in the combustion event than it was.
Especially when she first fires off cold.
Of course, I just "HADDA' " add in some fuel, and a 3200 spring while I had the pump down.

ok i have a question since yall are on the topic how would i go about bumping the timing on my 91 i looked in the sticky section and didnt see anything about it i have ben wanting to anvance it a little bit and get the timing spacer from MnH and if i advanced it how many degrees would i want to i do quite a bit of towin with this truck and would like some more power and better throtle response i am also planing on instaling my gov spring when i do my timing its jsut first i need to know how to advance it thanks for any help

yeah.... need to back it off some, wont spool for crap but when (if) it does light, Its great! The power is awesome at WOT but DD its a big pain in the *** and I'm scared every time I get on it hard... I would not recommend it at all... One tooth and leaving room to play with the pump is what I'm going back to.
