Default What does it take to install "tophat" valve seals?

I'm redoing a '93 12v head and the gasket set I got came with "tophat" valve seals. They have a stepped metal tube with the rubber seal installed in the top and are designed to be held down by the valve spring. The head that I have just has the standard rubber cap style valve seals, what would it take to fit the tophats instead of the caps?

thanks

run the top hats there better for performance
you have to have a little ring machined in the top of the head its no big deal and only about 50 bucks

Sounds good, anyone have specs on what needs to be machined? or should I just bring the head and valve seals to the shop and tell them to make it work?

thanks

if they know anything about motor machining they will know what to do

also you can have them do a valve job its not a bad idea if its needed have you done your valves? have you checked them? I recommend running a fluid to see if they need work also some specs here about that whole motor

I lapped the valves and got a good seal, I know a good automotive machinist so I'll talk to him about making them fit.

thanks again

Seriously I really appreciate the help this is turning into a really big project, I just hope it all runs good when it's finished.

I dropped the head off at the machinist and it sounds like he's done it before, it's gonna cost me $45. A set of cap style seals was going to cost me $50.
