Default Tachometer Output

Is there a tachometer output on the alternator like on the Chevy's. I want to install a tachometer but need a signal.

What year is your truck? i know the intercooled ones have a plug under the dash, and non intercooled require a sensor to be mounted on a oil pan bolt and read off the harmonic balencer, and like you said some use the alternater. Personally i would find the sensor kit for the barmonic balencer and use that instead of the alternator one.

It`s a flat 4 pin connector under the steering column, look around some, its not always directly under it.

My truck is a 1990 Chevy Cummins. It has a Non intercooled 1990 Cummins engine and a 2001 NV5600 from a Dodge truck.

It sounds like there is no hook up for tachometer on the alternator so I may have to look at the alternate means mentioned.

I run the Isspro that reads off magnetic pick-ups on the harmonic balancer. Works great and was very easy to install.

YOu can run it off one of the brushes on the alternator. My brother did it that way.

Yeah, I'll probably open up the alternator and make my own tachometer output as your brother did.
